How to Train Your Dragon: Using Our Database for Relationship Management, Reporting and Analysis of Our Planned Giving Program
Presented by Beth Proven, BA, CFRE
Manager of Planned Giving, University of Manitoba
Why does it feel like using your database is harder than training a dragon? Sometimes we wish a spell or incantation would make it do what we want it to! Just like dragons, databases can feel like a monstrous opponent, wise and powerful but temperamental and uncooperative. This session is not about designing or making your own database work. Rather you will be shown how, several years after its implementation, the University of Manitoba is now using its Raiser's Edge Database, and other everyday tools, to track and monitor its planned giving program. We will show you how we track and manage hundreds of relationships and actions with donors, how we track our financial data for meaningful reports, as well as the kind of data we are now able to extract in order to do analysis of our program for future planning. The dragon is housetrained but we still have to be careful that the curtains don't catch fire!
